Best practices

Simple habits that turn InfoGate into a powerful second brain.

Tag consistently

Pick a small set of clear tags (e.g. work, personal, finance) and apply them consistently. Fewer, well-used tags beat dozens of one-off labels.

Link related notes

Connect notes that belong together so you can jump between them. Linking builds a web of knowledge that is far more useful than isolated notes.

Match the format to the task

Use plain text to capture fast, Markdown for structured documents, and rich text when you need visual formatting like tables or colored text.

Reuse templates

Save frequently used note structures (meeting notes, checklists, journals) as templates so you never start from a blank page.

Search before you scroll

Trust the search bar. Typing a few characters is faster than browsing โ€” the full-text index finds matches inside note bodies too.

Rely on version history

Edit fearlessly. Every save is versioned, so you can always compare and restore an earlier draft.

Export regularly

Even though your notes are safe in the cloud, exporting a JSON backup now and then gives you an extra copy you fully control.

Protect your account

Use a strong, unique password and keep your email address current so you can always recover access.

Example: linking your records

Say you keep a note for your car and another for your driver's licence. Link them together and tag both "vehicle". Later, a single search for "vehicle" surfaces everything, and one click jumps from your car note straight to your licence details โ€” exactly how a connected knowledge base should work.
